Long Time No See- Nightmare fic? drabble? ficlet? who knows what things are called anymore.
This was supposed to be soft… I don’t quite know what happened. anyways, enjoy
A lil bit graphic because these are murder babies, what do you expect?
It had been a long time since the killings had stopped. It had been a long time since all the flecks of blood had been cleaned out from under his nails. It had been such a long time.
The nightmares never went away.
The groans of pain as the final breaths left all of those bodies, so many of them innocent, still echoed around his head every time he closed his eyes. The feeling of flesh being sliced open by the blade, the smell of the bodies, it all came flooding back so often its hardly even fair to say they left at all.
Chisoo didn’t want to tell Gitae. Even getting the words out would require a level of trust that no one with Chisoo’s past could possibly muster up. He loved Gitae, so much so it would frighten him at times. He was terrified of the knowledge that if anything or anyone hurt his boyfriend, he would personally track them down and hack every tooth out of their skull with a machete before gutting them like a fish just to ensure that he got Gitae back in his arms again.
Love was his weak point and after all those years of having been fashioned into a weapon, it was hard to accept having a weak point as being good… Being human. He knew he had to be right, it had to be good, because slowly, slowly, he realised that nothing that felt that way, that safe, that warm, could possibly be anything other than a blessing.
With that being said, the nightmares remained.
–
Gitae already knew. He knew the things Chisoo had done, the things he had seen, and he knew the way it weighs on a heart. So when he was awoken by the love of his life screaming and crying in his sleep, he knew what the problem was. He also knew from experience that waking up Chisoo results in embarrassment, not thankfulness. His boyfriend tries so hard to be strong, being spotted while he was so out of control only made him retreat. So Gitae did the only thing he knew how to.
When another kick in the knee from tossing and turning, trying to escape his own head woke Gitae, he pulled his boyfriend into his chest, so his ear was over his heart, patted his hair slowly and whispered tiny comforts into the air until his heartbeat and unwavering love soothed Chisoo back into a dream, instead of a nightmare.
There were some nights that the movement and noises would wake Chisoo, but before he could muster up the strength to move away, the promises his boyfriend would whisper and the completely unique and utterly intoxicating safety he felt in those moments would only make him cuddle up closer, hold on a little tighter.
Gitae could feel it, of course, but he never brought it up, he only savoured the moments where he could be the one to protect his boyfriend instead. As strong as Chisoo was, he couldn’t keep it up forever.
The promises of love, of safety, of a full and happy life by each other’s sides, however, offered him more strength than he could have ever gained while working for his “Father". Although those words only floated in the air for a moment before fading, they were constantly brought back, again and again, every time Chisoo needed them, and it was enough.
Chisoo was a murderer. He was a weapon and he was a warrior. He was a fighter, but so was Gitae.
Together, they could make it through anything.
