~ the pondering muse🌙

With all the bad news happening in the last few months surrounding our planet from climate change satellites deployment being halted and then ordered destroyed to the fact that we may have only a few decades to prevent total catastrophic collapse, we tend to miss the good things. So, here’s a list of some amazing victories.

– The Ozone will be completely healed by 2060.

– Biodegradable plastics are becoming popular.

– Solarpunk & Lunarpunk communities are thriving.

– Communities are starting to talk about climate change and adaptation and putting it into action.  transitionnetwork.org/

– Co-op’s are popping up for everything.

– Extinction Rebellion is calling for massive change to save our planet.

– Spain wants to cut 90% of carbon by 2050.

– Scotland’s Wind Turbines generated 98% of it’s energy demands.

–  We can sue the government over climate change.

– Elephants are adapting to poaching by not developing tusks.

This is just a small list of the amazing things we have done together as solarpunks, lunarpunks, and communities (not to mention the animals that are adapting). If I was to keep a log, I would be constantly adding new things to this list on a daily basis and wouldn’t be able to keep up with it all. No matter how dark and bleak our futures may seem, what’s a little darkness to Lunarpunks? We all can and will thrive. Don’t loose hope. Keep pushing for a better tomorrow and a better today. It can and it is slowly taking shape.

On this day in music history: November 20, 1970 – “Come To My Garden”, the debut solo album by Minnie Riperton is released. Produced by Charles Stepney, it is recorded at Ter Mar Studios in Chicago, IL from November 24 – 26, 1969. Following her departure from the psychedelic soul/jazz fusion band The Rotary Connection, singer Minnie Riperton begins work on her solo debut in late 1969. It features all original material written by Stepney and Riperton’s husband Richard Rudolph as well as musical backing by Maurice White (drums), Phil Upchurch (guitar) and Ramsey Lewis (keyboards). It is released in the Fall following the financial collapse of Chess Records and issued on GRT Records (who acquires Chess), after being originally scheduled for release in the Spring of 1970. The album receives virtually no promotion from the label and quickly disappears from public notice. A few years after its release, it attracts the attention of Stevie Wonder, who finds Minnie living in Clearwater, FL with her husband and two children. He convinces her to come out of “retirement” from the music business to join his band Wonderlove. After joining up with Wonder and then recording the album “Perfect Angel”, it revives interest in her long dormant debut release. Though it does not fare much better commercially on the second go around in the mid 70’s, it is widely praised by music critics and Riperton’s fans as “a masterpiece”. “Come To My Garden” belatedly charts in 1974, peaking at number one hundred sixty on the Billboard Top 200.

Marsai Martin Will Executive Produce and Star in Her Own Movie at 14

Marsai Martin is part of Teen Vogue’s 21 Under 21 class of 2018, which spotlights extraordinary young women, girls, and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.

Marsai Martin may very well be the first 14-year-old to executive produce and star in her own movie, Little, in theaters April 2019, but she wants to move beyond historic firsts for marginalized communities. “I hope that [in 21 years] we won’t even have to be a first anymore: first black woman to do this, or first black male, or first woman to do that,” she tells Teen Vogue over the phone. “I hope that we always have diversity, that we have equality and representation every step of the way.”

It’s not a lofty goal considering all Marsai has already accomplished. Born in Dallas, the wunderkind actor launched her career at the tender age of five. After moving to California with her family, in just 100 days she hit two milestones many actors spend decades working toward. She landed the role of Diane Johnson, the spirited elder twin sister, on ABC’s hit show Black-ish, and nabbed a national commercial campaign with Meineke — all before her 10th birthday.

Now, four years later, Marsai’s adding executive producer to her already long list of accomplishments. She started a production company to bring her show and movie ideas to fruition, ideas she’s been developing since she was just two years old. “My parents and I always look at movies and just think, what’s missing? from the plot to the people of color or diversity in general,” she says.

Winter has made an early appearance where I live, keeping us huddled inside. I’ve rediscovered some of my art apps, goofing around with TangledFX and Aquarella.  I have some – okay MANY – images of Peng Xin and Ocean Jiang on my my device –  I write fics for their characters, I sometimes need inspiration.

I’ve been mostly playing with TangledFx, liking the swirly bits. Anyway, I thought I’d share these with you. 🙂
