behindthegrooves:

On this day in music history: November 11, 1975 – “Gratitude”, the seventh album by Earth, Wind & Fire is released. Produced by Maurice White, Charles Stepney, and Joe Wissert (live tracks), it is recorded in Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, St. Louis, MO, Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, New York, NY, Philadelphia, PA, and Washington DC from Late 1974 – Mid 1975 (live tracks) and Hollywood Sound, Wally Heider Studios in Hollywood, CA in June 1975 (studio tracks). Following their huge breakthrough success with “That’s The Way Of The World”, Columbia Records requests another album from the band for release in time for the 1975 Christmas holiday season. Not having enough time or new material written to record a brand new studio album, they begin recording their live shows. The finished album is a two LP set with three sides of live material and a fourth side with five new songs. It is also released with the lower list price of $7.98 ($8.98 cassette and 8-track) rather than the normal $11.98 or $12.98 price for a double album. It spins off the hits “Sing A Song” (#1 R&B, #5 Pop) and “Can’t Hide Love (#11 R&B, #39 Pop). “Gratitude” is regarded by many fans and critics as one of the best live recordings of all time. The album is remastered and reissued in 1999 on a standard redbook CD and single layer SACD. It is remastered again in 2011 for the box set “Earth, Wind & Fire – The Columbia Masters”, and in 2012 as a two disc high resolution Blu-Ray disc in Japan, replicating  the original album packaging in mini-LP form. Out of print on vinyl since the late 80’s, it is remastered and reissued by Friday Music in 2015, as a limited edition pressed on blue vinyl. Another LP reissue pressed on standard black vinyl is released by Sony Music also in 2015. “Gratitude” spends three weeks at number one on the Billboard Top 200, six weeks (non-consecutive) at the top of the R&B album chart, and is certified 3x Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

ok, but can we talk about how come someone have to opportunity to direct such a good tv show, with so many diversities, and ended making that piece of crap of an ending and tv show (with romanticized rape, actual rape, totally unrealistic relationship and a good storyline of characters that had so many different backgrounds and that could be transformed into something beautiful and ending it up making them fight because the director thought they needed a “different ending”)?? I just can’t-

weilongfu:

Oh Anon.

We can’t pin everything on Khun New. It’s tempting! But we can’t. While I’m disappointed, I acknowledge that there were bound to be other factors at play. And now that I’m calmer and not just waking up to the outrage of an entire fandom, I can talk about this logically.

The first factor is that Khun New is apparently devoted to staying accurate to the novel (and then he throws TinCan under the bus despite how they don’t actually happen in the first book). This also means there’s a lot of problematic material that happens because apparently the author likes all those problematic tropes. Even the “stable and healthy” relationship of Type and Tharn was started with rape in the novel and that was pretty damn jarring to learn about too.

The second factor might have been the investors. They might have said that Khun New had to do X, Y, and Z with the story or they wouldn’t fund it. IDK, I’m not privy to that info, but I wouldn’t be surprised. It may explain why TinCan show up when they wouldn’t have happened until another season if he was following everything to the letter. It would also explain the poor pacing of their story since he tried to stuff it into the last three episodes.

Seriously Khun New, you couldn’t find better solutions? I get it, you needed to build up the conflict between Tin and Ae so that Can would punch the daylights out of Tin to stay “true to the novel”, but you could have also cut out the slow motion effect for every kiss between Ae and Pete and saved yourself an entire hour or something. Also that whole TumTar story line? Just stop it.

The third factor is impact factor. Khun New probably thought this would make the show go out with a bang. This was probably not the bang us international fans were expecting. I don’t follow what’s going on with Thai fans, but apparently they’re not all that upset, so this is a cultural thing I guess?

But overall Anon, I agree, this was a chance to really push the limits of the BL Drama genre. And let’s not forget that LBC did push. They did a lot more in LBC than they’ve done in a lot of other very popular dramas (See SOTUS and 2Moons). Like the level of chemistry and even the intimacy the characters had in LBC was many times better than any other drama I’ve seen EXCEPT when compared to Long Time No See. But Long Time No See is about grown ass adults so I’m not surprised.

LBC Forever

AePete is the main reason why LBC will always have a special place in my heart. I am fairly new to this whole BL fandom and I am not entirely sure if I’m that big of a fan of all those Thai-BL-shows which are going to be thrown our way.

But when I watch LBC I imagine LGBT+ people, maybe teenagers, maybe younger, maybe older and I am happy because they will watch

  • the main character saying he is gay
  • a coming-out scene which is so true to the actual expirience of coming out that it makes me tear up every time
  • the potrayal of a first love which is lovely and heartwarming

They will watch a couple falling in love, like every other couple. They will watch the developement of physical intimacy and the message, that yes of course you are worthy of love and this is how it should look like.

I sincerely hope that the positivity of AePete’s relationship will be the first of many healthy relationships and gay storylines in the Thai-BL-Fandom.

I will miss them and my other ship TinCan, but the impact of LBC will drive me to write fanfiction for a long time – that I can promise.

After ridding of his slippers, Shen Wei sits on the mattress and places Yunlan on the sheets, rubbing him down one more time with the towel he’s cocooned in. Once done, he dresses him in his galaxy- patterned onesie, trying not to think too much of the strangeness of their situation

He’s lived for more than 10,000 years. He’s loved and lost and loved and lost and loved Yunlan again. He hasn’t lost him now, won’t lose him again either. This is just a momentary setback.

Finished with Yunlan’s onesie, Shen Wei pats his bottom approvingly and dresses for bed next.

Bright fluorescent lights turn off as the lamp shade by the nightstand flickers on and bathes the bedroom in a warm, soft glow. He picks Yunlan up and climbs in, a pleased groan rumbling in his throat as he sinks into the welcoming softness of their marital bed, long legs stretched out and leaning against a stack of pillows. Yunlan slides down his front until he’s propped half on his shoulder, half on his chest. He kisses Yunlan’s forehead, fingers raking through silky hair, closes his eyes and hums.

Aaaaaaah yes new chapter!!!!!!! Yay waifu!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

TinCan AePete interacting, in whatever way?

florbexter:

TinCan + AePete Ficlet

“I really thought they were a pair?” Tin murmured. Can looked up and followed Tin’s eyes to P’Type and P’No. His seniors stood at the pool table and pickered about a move P’No had made. “They are not?”, Pete asked and smiled when Ae pulled him back in his embrace.

Can exchanged a puzzled look with Ae.

“No, they are just best friends I guess,” Ae said.

Tin mhmed and crossed his arms and stared at Type and Techno as if he had a puzzle to solve.

“They argue a lot,” Can said. That was a sign for non-dating, right?

The bar was packed with the football team of the university after their first win of the season. Can felt loose and happy, because he had been allowed to play and Tin had been there to cheer him on. And Ae and Tin made an effort to be civil with each other which meant a lot of silence from both of them but nobody was throwing punches so… success!

“He is cleary checking him out,” Tin said and drank from his glass. He had promised Can to drive him home, so it was only cola.

“Who?”, Can asked, because he already had three shots and he had thought about dragging Tin to the toilets to celebrate his win with a heavy make-out session in one of the stalls.

“The taller one is P’Type, right?”

Can nodded.

“Then he is the one checking your P’No out.”

Pete moved forward so fast he almost slid off the couch. Ae looked like he wanted to say: “See, that happens when I let go of you for a second.”

Pete knew that he was supposed to have a gay-dar but he wasn’t sure how to activate it. The whole football team were tactil people; Pete had never seen boys so eager to hug each other all the time, so he wasn’t entirely sure what the signs were.

But the moment P’Techno leaned forward to play, P’Type’s eyes didn’t follow the billiard cue but P’Technos body-line, especially his butt. Pete blushed on behalf of P’Techno and looked at Ae, who stared at something on his waist. Pete looked down and sighed. His shirt exposed part of his skin and Pete knew the second Ae opened his mouth that he would make the suggestion to head home to Pete’s apartment.

“I don’t care!”, Can yelled suddenly and both Ae and Pete flinched, “I need to go to the toilet.” Pete had no idea why he grabbed Tin and dragged him with him, but he had no time to think further about it, because Ae’s fingers found their way to the patch of skin on his waist and Ae was more interesting than anything else.

So we are not getting a season 2 and the director said that they had to make one couple have sad ending so it was TinCan. How hilarious is the fact that Kla and P’No got a happy ending with that kind of shi*ty plot (rape) but TinCan did not get it?!

weilongfu:

Hey Khun New, one day, some day, someone will bring this ask to your attention.

When that happens, I’d like you to take this piece of writing advice from me. I hope you’re sitting down and wearing a sturdy hat, because this might fucking blow your god damn mind.

There doesn’t need to be a sad ending for ANYONE.

THERE DOESN’T NEED TO BE A SAD ENDING FOR ANY OF THE GOD DAMN PAIRINGS.

As one gay man to another, why do we need sad storylines all the damn time? What does that offer? What does it prove? Just because one couple ended up happy, we need some contrast? Hell no! Plus you fucking made this show unrealistic already.

It’s a fairytale for Pete to trust in Ae like that. It’s a fairytale for them to love so purely. And I loved it. So give everyone else a happy ending too!

You didn’t even need to have the TumTar story which didn’t exist in the novel to this capacity apparently? And no one internationally was clamoring for what happened to Techno.

All this wasted time and space.

Learn some proper pacing, man.
